Maelstorm

"Dramatic and perfectly orchestrated"

submission: Maelstorm
date: August 31, 2009

The orchestration was stunning. Instead of being upstaged by the lead guitar, the two balance each other out with the speed and distortion of the guitar with the slower, cleaner sound of the choir voice. As usual, the intro grabbed me immediately. As it continues, I can find myself constantly impressed by the melodies. Each song of yours is so unique and amazing in its own way, but out of all of the great works, this has got to be my favorite. To give this review a little more substance rather than just excessive praise, though that is what the song deserves, I would agree that there should be some transition at 1:40 from the guitar to the orchestration, but quite honestly, I don't care. Best symphonic metal track I've heard on Newgrounds. Amazing work!

Author's Response:

Wow, I don't know what to say...you've reviewed multiple works of mine ranging from originals to remixes; from rock to "video game" metal, folk metal and now symphonic metal. I really appreciate the review, and know what you refer to when you mention the choir, orchestration and guitars. After all, we have similar music tastes ^^

Again, yep, I really did rush myself in a way not thinking of adding a fading sustained note at 1:40 or even some noise from the guitar that signals the intro replaying at the end. What can I say - I was eager to get this track on Newgrounds Audio for everyone to hear XD Thanks so much for the detailed (fluffy and excessive, but detailed XD) review. Thanks even more for continuous and consistent reviews on my works; at least I now know two people in NG who I can rely on to criticize my work. :)

If you liked Maelstorm, the future will have more symphonic metal pieces from me. It's actually one of my most favorite (sub)genres of metal and likewise I have lots of concepts for songs in the genre waiting to be finished. But I'll share this one last thought of mine - one day, Newgrounds Audio will hear symphonic power metal, and it'll come from me. One day. ;)

Unbroken Dream

"Awesome song!"

submission: Unbroken Dream
date: July 19, 2009

I enjoyed the lead guitar very much, and the melody was great. The one thing stood out to me was how the song built on itself. The sort of angelic choir sound that started at 0:48 really fit into the song. My favorite aspect of the song is when at 1:25 the song deconstructs itself then builds again, adding the instruments back for a powerful transition to the outro. Great job!

Author's Response:

For the third time, thanks so much! But this time, it means a lot more, since you took the time to review properly one of my very first songs, which lacks a certain quality & requirement that I now have all the time. Even still, this song is MUCH more important than...pretty much all the others I have in my account as of now, since it is completely original. Not a remix of anything, but my very own creation.

Thank you for the review and the fav! An original will come again...someday...^^

"Incredible"

date: July 1, 2009

I've never played (or even heard of) the series in question, but the song is just amazing. I really like the piano, and my favorite part is the outro. I really don't see why people don't like the "random hits". I think they're perfect. The only noticeable flaw I see is the lack of transition to the outro. The guitar work is great, and though I thought the song was leading to become overly complex, it never sounds muddled to me. Great work!

July 1, 2009

Author's Response:

When I remixed this song, I just really felt the need to add orchestration and that piano. I guess it worked out well! And finally, someone who directly says that the random hits sounds okay XD They're perfect with the original and I honestly don't see why they wouldn't fit in with my remix. People are probably not used to things like that ^^;

And yes, I admit to that flaw to the outro. I do that a lot, but I try to make it sound better each time...TCA was my first attempt, so I'm not gonna wonder why you thought it was kinda abrupt. Because I know it is. XD

Also, it can sound muddled at some points where ALL instruments are playing, but I always try to balance it as much as possible.

Thanks for the review. =)

(8bit) Enter Sandman

"Great, but a few flaws"

date: June 26, 2009

What I really enjoyed was the percussion, which was just completely awesome and very close to the original, and the solo was insane and authentic.
However, the intro was a little too fast, which sounded extremely off until the drum kicked in at 0:12. At 2:07, the tune was supposed to be lower and quieter, but when it transitioned, there was a really short, high pitched note. I'm really nitpicking, though. It's a great song, its well polished, and probably the best 8bit Metallica cover I've heard.

Author's Response:

Glad, you enjoyed. I will take a look into that and hopefully improve my peices in the future.

{NA} 8-Bit Nightwish (Wilds)

"Well-executed"

date: June 23, 2009

Considering the folk influence in Last of the Wilds and the use of wind instruments, I would have thought this would sound really muddled and overly complex. However, it was a pretty well-executed remix. My only complaint, like others, is that the intro is too sudden. Although I cannot imagine how one would replicate the actual pipe intro, there should be a point like the original in which only a few sounds are playing in the beginning. Since all of it is introduced at once, the song doesn't build on itself, and does get stale after a while. But I'm nitpicking. On the positive side, I really like the percussion, and though I normally hate fade-outs (I feel they're anti-climactic), I really like how it sounds at the end of this song. The song is great, and is definitely worth a listen. Great job!

Tonindo - Let's Brawl

"Godly"

date: June 23, 2009

The original Brawl theme is amazing, but giving it a metal edge improves it drastically. It sounds a lot cleaner (as in not overly gritty) than most metalized remixes, which I appreciate. This song is just completely epic. Great job!

Kindom For A Heart (Cover)

"Great!"

date: June 23, 2009

But the synth guitar is a little lacking until 1:30, I think the synth keys sort of overshadow the distortion (if that makes sense). You replicated the tune and the spirit of the song right. It captures Sonata Arctica's use of guitar and keyboard as two separate soloing instruments alternating with amazing tunes. Love the outro. Great remix!

June 24, 2009

Author's Response:

Thanks and Yeah I know that synth guitar lacks on this alot but I had no better guitar back when i covered this song ^-^; but I'm glad you liked it anyhow.

Kirby 64: Miracle Matter

"Brings back memories"

date: June 23, 2009

Kirby 64 is a great game, and once again, your work amazes me. The intro is probably my favorite part. The song has much higher energy than the original. Definitely the best Kirby 64 remix I've heard. So, as usual, great job!

Khuskan - Atomic

"Hilarious"

submission: Khuskan - Atomic
date: June 23, 2009

I can't imagine how you came up with it, but its genius. I really like how he said "automobiles" and "w-w-we have safety rules now". And like what Flashcard-Man said, this is actually a little bit satirical, for it is essentially mutilating the public service messages of the nuclear fear.

Altar Of Darkness

"Beautiful"

submission: Altar Of Darkness
date: June 20, 2009

Its almost heartwrenching. Its solemn, dark, and dramatic. It loops fairly well, as most of your songs do, so it may be good for a game-over screen or something of the sort. Anyway, great song!
